The Reverend Al Sharpton, who actually triples as a reverend, lawyer, and civil rights activist, was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1954 and was already preaching to large crowds at the ripe age of 9! He was just 9 years old when he was ordained as a minister. In his younger years, Al Sharpton was an important figure in his high school, leading protests against everything from the food served in the cafeteria to the dress code enforced by the school. With these skills within him, it is no wonder that the Reverend Al Sharpton decided that the legal system was the right place for him to thrive.

Al Sharpton For Civil Rights

Sharpton’s first touch of the American legal system and fame came in 1986 when he protested in New York City after a black male was run over by a car nearby a white mob. Just 3 years later, Sharpton spoke out in the case brought up by Tawana Brawley against 6 white police officers who she claimed had raped her and left her covered in feces in a garbage bag. Sharpton has often spoken out against racial injustices and has been a leader in the fight against racism in America.

Sharpton For Public Office?

Reverend Al Sharpton has run numerous times for a seat in the United States Senate and has also tried to become the Mayor of New York once in 1997. Throughout his career as a lawyer, Al Sharpton has served the poor of the community and those who he feels have been ignored by the media and gone uncovered for too long. Sharpton has been revered by many for his outlandish words and ability to capture national attention in America. His position as a famous lawyer has allowed him to gain rights for those who were previously violated in America, and while he has never been voted into political office, his large following respects his ways of giving back to the community and doing his best to use his position for good.
