Houston Lawyer Association

The Houston Lawyer Association, or the Houston Bar Association, is a nonprofit professional organization designed to assist attorneys in the Houston, Texas area. In a summary, the Houston Lawyer Association works with local lawyers to deliver education, service, and professional development for both those directly involved with the Houston Lawyer Association and the surrounding community.

Requirements of Houston Lawyer Association

Besides serving to help lawyers, the Houston Lawyer Association requires that all law-practicing members follow a specific mandate of professionalism when associating with clients and potential clients from the Houston area. Lawyers are bound at all times by conduct best characterized as honest, candid, and just. Lawyers must pledge an undeniable loyalty to their clients and must treat clients fairly and as their number one priority at all times during their associations with the clients. At the same time, Houston Lawyer Association members are bound by agreements in which they promise to honor and respect fellow lawyers in the same way that they honor and respect clients. Lawyers must treat opposing lawyers fairly and must be courteous at all times when associating with fellow lawyers. Additionally, lawyers promise to abide by the laws set forth by the court and must make an oath to carry out justice to the fullest extents of the law during each and every court proceeding.

Benefits of Houston Lawyer Association

For following these guidelines, the Houston Lawyer Association will, in turn, offer assistance and service to lawyers who are members of the Association. The Houston Lawyer Association has recently passed an initiative in Houston, in which 26 firms have signed a statement offering gender fairness within the profession. Firms have agreed to increase the number of women directly involved in firms, in aspects ranging from partnerships and management opportunities to equal pay rates and more flexible work schedules. The Houston Lawyer Association offers membership to those practicing law within the Houston, TX area.
