New Jersey is an interesting state regarding the law. It’s almost as if it’s divided into many distinct parts, and each part has its own laws and regulations. Northern New Jersey, with its close proximity to New York, has many laws similar to Manhattan. South Jersey, and the shore communities, operate on their own – including Atlantic City with its unique gambling laws. Casinos have to have strict regulations guiding their behavior, which can give a lawyer in New Jersey a lot to deal with. A lawyer in New Jersey has to understand that the gambling laws are specific to certain areas, and do not affect the whole state.

New Jersey Law

New Jersey gambling laws are pretty straightforward – until you get to Atlantic City. New Jersey is one of the original states to allow gambling – particularly gambling casinos. Lawyers in New Jersey have to understand the laws of operating a casino within Atlantic City, as the laws governing that city differ from the rest of the state. Because there are so many different types of gambling, and not all of them legal, even in New Jersey, it is up to a lawyer in New Jersey to understand the laws and advise people in the casino business. It is also in a lawyer’s best interest to understand these laws to ensure casinos are not breaking any laws or regulations while in operation.

The Other Laws a Lawyer in New Jersey Should Know

Unfortunately, legalized gambling will attract a criminal element. Anytime an activity so dependent on money is offered, crime will attempt to cash in on it. So a lawyer in New Jersey should know the laws that will be taken advantage of, and the crimes that gambling attracts. A lawyer in New Jersey will be able to help people who think they have been conned out of money, and help them with their case.
